I am so grateful for Esmé and John and thank them for helping me complete this wonderful course.

Both Esmé and John Edmonds have been cared for at Epworth and were inspired to establish the endowed Esmé and John Edmonds Staff Scholarship to support the education and development of Epworth staff.

“We established this scholarship in recognition of the care and support provided to us by Epworth staff. Having both spent time as patients at Epworth, we were moved by the calibre of the doctors and medical staff who work at Epworth.”

“Their achievements are remarkable!” said Esmé and John.

“It is impossible not to be impressed with the spirit that drives Epworth. We wanted to be part of this enthusiastic group who provide the community with so much.”

Epworth Intensive Care Unit nurse Sophie Kasem is one of six Epworth staff who has received a scholarship since Esmé and John created the endowed scholarship fund in 2017.

“I completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Intensive Care Nursing at Deakin University.”

“During a challenging year in ICU due to COVID, I’m proud of my achievements. I’ve gained in depth nursing assessment skills, as well as learning about the management of complex machinery such as dialysis machines, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps and the best way to care for cardiac surgical patients facing complications.

“I have loved all the new information I’ve gained, and experiences I’ve been given. Every shift has given me the chance to learn something new, and I have been supported so well by my ICU team.

“It really has consolidated my passion for nursing, and I realise this is just the start and I have a strong desire to keep working my hardest to be the best ICU nurse I can be.

“I am so grateful for Esmé and John and thank them for helping me complete this wonderful course.”
